Music Magazine Cover (Draft 1)

This is my first draft of my magazine cover. I have based it on both my original layout and taken inspiration from some of the magazine covers that I originally analysed. I have edited my main cover image by enlarging it and changing the colour of her eyes. I have decided to use a serif font for my kickers as I think that it fits in well with the genre I am doing of pop but at the same time does not follow the conventions of pop magazines too strictly and look cheesy as this is something that a wanted to avoid with my magazine. I have used a fairly conventional layout and have ensured that I have Incorporated all the important features of a magazine cover such as a bar code, date line and model credit.

I have also planned out my photoshoot so that I can have a good quality image that will fit well intio my cover layout. I will now shoot this image so that I can start to create my cover.

Project Plan and Music Magazine Mood Board

This is my project plan that I will follow whilst making my music magazine in order to keep organised and ensure I finish on schedule.

Based on the results I got I have created a mood board which represents the overall idea I have for my pop magazine and what it will represent. I have chosen certain images and colours based on the results I gathered from my pie charts and my own ideas in order to create a basic starting point for my magazine.

I have created this questionnaire to hand out to at least 20 different peeople in order to gain research for the music magazine I will create. I have asked about different types of music and prices in order to create a music magazine that will appeal to a majority. I will follow the results as a basic guidline that I will use to create my magazine.

Contents Page

This is my contents page for my school magazine. I have used similar colour in the contents as those on the cover which will create continuity throughout my magazine. I have made the table of contents quite bold and in your face as I want it to be exciting and a quick list of what you can find in the magazine rather than an in depth and complex contents and I do not think this will be appropriate for my target audience of sixth form students. I have used two images to illustrate content of the magazine. I have used images that I think sum up the school quite well and show the reader a realistic version of the school rather than something extraordinary as this will be misleading.

Final Magazine Cover

I have now improved my magazine by taking suggestions from some of the feedback I got from my magazine cover evaluation. I have change the font of my kickers and added a drop shadow to the main kicker so that it stands out from the rest of the page. I have also enlarged the image and using the lasso tool I have made the models head go in front of the masthead. I like this as I think it makes the page look more complete and tied together rather than there being many seperate sections, they now all work well together.

I have now finished my magazine cover and have changed the font and added shading in some areas in order to emphasise the text

Magazine Cover Draft 1

I have now started creating my magazine cover using photosshop. I started by taking a photo that would fit well into my magazine design. I then spent sometime editing this image in order to improve the photograph. Once this was completed I added on text, creating a masthead and several kicker with explanatory text in order to create the magazine cover. When adding text I used a grid in order to ensure all of the seperate sections of writing lined up in the way I wanted them to.

Advertisement

I also created an advertisement using an image I had taken at school in order to further my Photoshop skills. I did this by adding a new layer to the photo and then using the "Brush Tool" I drew a pink line down one side of the image. I then changed the layer type to "Soft Light" which made it seem translusent and blend into the rest of the white background. I also used "Colour Filtering" which made the overall image seem lighter. Finally I pasted in and popular brand name and rotated it in order to make it fit into the area I wanted to contain it.

Cloning

As one of your practice tasks we were asked to take photos and edit them using the "Clone Tool" on PhotoShop. With this image I edited out some of the writing on the sign for the school. I did this by using the "Clone Tool" as I didn't want only half of the school name on the sign and would rather have no writing. I think that I did this quite successfully as the sign appears to be that way in real life and is more aesthetic.
